Hyacinth Macaws
Once there were many more of these beautiful birds in the Pantanal, but by the 1990's their population had decreased dramatically due to trapping and selling as caged birds. They are a marvelously gregarious and communal species. After "The Hyacinth Macaw Project" began in the1990's their population has recovered somewhat. Oh what a thrill to see them playing in the wild.
