Toads in Love Under Water
Amazing morning in Valley Forge as there were hundreds of American Toads who had migrated to the wetlands. I had my high boots on and was able to photograph these three and many more while they were under water. When it was all over, the female (in the middle) laid two long strings of eggs and the males fertilized them. Little tadpoles will hatch in about a week or so. They will grow for about a month in the pond and then turn into little toadlets. Then migrate back into the woods, grow to adulthood and then the whole cycle will begin again.
