American Toad today in Valley Forge National Park. It is just the beginning of the mating season for these little cuties. They come out of the woods and into the vernal pools where there will be a wild orgy for the next few days. The ladies will lay long strings of eggs that will…

They were singing their hearts out in Charlestown Meadows late this afternoon. I put on my boots and walked into the bog and there they were. No bigger than a postage stamp and so aware.

It was another cold day in the woods in Charlestown Meadows today, but the spring is coming and the bluebirds and the deer came out to play.

I was walking the path this afternoon not thinking about anything when this little garter snake jumped out in front of me. Total surprise. He slithered onto the rocks and posed for his picture.

Way up high on a tree on the trail near Pawlings Farm there was a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers making a nest. I just got one of them, but I marked the tree where they were and maybe, just maybe they will nest there and have a few little pumpkins. Wouldn’t that be fun!

I was walking in the woods off of Ship Road down a long path and came to a little vernal pool. And there floating on the pool was a new friend.
