It’s remarkable to see the different temperaments of the deer of Charlestown Meadows vs. those of Valley Forge. This little beauty was just off the path and so very close. This is a full frame photograph – no cropping. A deer in Valley Forge would never have let me get so close.

Yesterday I got to Valley Forge just about dusk. The deer were already playing in the big meadow. Two boys dueling in the snow, one in the woods with very tiny antlers and two big bucks in perfect light. Great way to end the day.

I was soaking wet this morning in Valley Forge, but happy as a clam. I found the great horned owl asleep on a low branch right in front of me. As I was trying to get the raincoat away from the camera dials, the owl opened his eyes very wide, stood up straight and…
